Abstract

Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition CIRC is one of technique in cooerative learning method that need to grouping works. The group consist of 4 to 5 students. Using this technique that completed with picture and descriptive text that students can be easier to read and comprehend their reading ability. In this study, the researcher was focused on the significant score as effect of using CIRC technique to students reading achievement. The researcher conducted the research to the eight grade students of MTs. Al- Fatich Surabaya. The researcher used quasi-experimental method in this study. Population in this research was eight grade of MTs. Al- Fatich Surabaya. The researcher took two classes as the sample; 8B consist of 30 students as the experimental group while 8D consist of 30 as the control group. Data were collected from pre-test and post-test to measure the using of CIRC technique. A normality test was used to determine whether sample data has been drawn from a normally distribute population (within some tolerance). Homogeneity test was used to calculate the homogeneity of variance of both experimental class and control class test score. Based on the result of the analysis, the mean score of experimental class for the post-test was 87.16 while the mean score for the control class was 81.67. In addition, the average score of experimental class was higher than control class. The result of significance value based on Mann Whitney U analysis in post-test was 0.004 < 0.05. From the result above, it can be concluded that there was a significant score effect of using CIRC technique to students reading achievement to the eighth grade students in MTs. Al- Fatich Surabaya.
