Abstract

This study is intended to analize the relevance of genres and activities of the reading materials in English in Focus textbook for junior High School published by Ganeca Exact with the content standart issue by Ministry of National Education No. 22/2006, and the relevance of genres, generic structures and linguistic features of the text. This study is descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this study was the reading materials in English textbook entitled English in Focus for grade VII,VIII, and IX which are published by Ganeca Exact. The study uses main instrument which was the reaseacher and the two supporting instruments which are materials description and two kind of obsevation table. Considering the results of the study, it can be concluded that English in Focus textbook can still be used for grade VII, VIII, IX. But the teachers have to be creative to combine it with other materials to achieve what is suggested by content standart in term of basic competence.
