Abstract

This research investigated the quality of oral feedback as a teacher approach to correct students' mistakes in speaking. This study focused on the analysis of the kind of oral feedback that commonly used by the teacher, the ways to give oral feedback and the students' responses toward oral feedback. The research design of this study used descriptive qualitative to analyzed the data. The object of this study was the students and the teacher in 7a class MTs Hasyim Asy'ari Tawangsari - Pasuruan. The data of this study were taken from doing observation process, distributing questionnaires and interviewing the English teacher. Based on the result of data analysis, oral evaluative feedback is most commonly used by the teacher. It is used for 56 times or 51%. The type of oral corrective feedback that most often used by the teacher is recast. It is used for 21 time or 43%. Most of the students state that they are like and feel confidence to speak English after getting oral feedback. But, the mean of score of student's confidence and student's activities after getting oral feedback are less than 1, they are only 0,75 and 0,37. So, for English teacher, it is hoped he or she to know the students' characteristic in order the students will not be embarrassed and want to participate after the other students know about the mistakes and they can build their self confidence.
