Abstract

Improving English language skills does not just aim to the lessons learned by the students, but also concerns to the process and methods of learning. The process includes a model of the curriculum implemented. Regarding to the implementation of the curriculum, full day school system is one model of education which strongly supports in improving the English language skills with supporting activities. Relating to improve the ability of speaking English, the author chooses MTs plus Raden Paku Trenggalek as the site of study. This is because of the vision and mission of this school is hoping to be able to increase the mastery of language skills. Therefore, the principal wants to realize the vision and mission by implementing a system of full day school that aims to improve students’ proficiency of foreign language (Arabic, English), so that graduates are able to continue to abroad. Based on the information and issues above, then the researcher raises the title “the implementation of full day school system for improving speaking ability at MT plus Raden Paku Trenggalek” for his study. The purpose of this study is to understand the implementation of full day school system and to understand whether the implementation of full day school can improve students' speaking ability for grade 2 of MTs plus Raden Paku Trenggalek. This study is included to the qualitative descriptive approach. Subjects of the study were all students in grade 2 of MTs plus Raden Paku Trenggalek, the headmaster and the English teacher who teaches the grade 2. And in collecting the data, the researcher uses the technique of observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Observation and documentation to address the implementation of full day school, while the questionnaire and interview to answer whether the implementation of full day school can improve speaking ability. The result of the research shows that the implementation of full day school system to improve the ability to speak in MTs plus Raden Paku Trenggalek has been going well but not be said to succeed. By implementing activities that help in training students to learn speaking English, for example, the provision of new vocabularies every day, English speech, discussion, and trained to have conversation every Sunday morning.
