Abstract
Di artikel ini, peneliti menganalisa Catastrophe in Love dalam novel Thomas Hardy, the Well-Beloved. Peneliti menggunakan teori New Criticism. Peneliti menganalisa hubungan cinta tokoh utama dengan gadis gadis dari tiga generasi sebuah keluarga, si ibu, si anak, dan si cucu. Akhirnya penulis menyimpulkan bahwa setelah berpacaran dengan gadis gadis dari tiga generasi tersebut, si tokoh utama mengkhiri kisah cintanya dengan kesedihan, dengan kata lain kehancuran dalam cinta.
