Abstract

The study aims to discover the heroic values of Albus in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child written by J.K. Rowling. This research uses qualitative method of study. Qualitative research is a method for knowing, observing, exploring, and understanding the meaning of individuals or group toward social or human problem. Furthermore, qualitative method is a way of analysis which data is in form of text, words, phrase, and sentences. The heroic values of Albus are analyzed by applying heroism theory proposed by Bernstein. The supporting theory is New Criticism used in analyzing the intrinsic aspects of the literary work. In this research, New Criticism is used for analyzing the characterization of Albus in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.As the result of the analysis it is found that Albus is described as sympathetic, optimistic, smart, unconfident, stubborn, and impulsive boy. Meanwhile, the finding shows that Albus owns heroic values of prowess, action against the opposition, triumph, and courage. In short, it can be concluded that Albus is a hero since he has elements of heroic values proposed by Bernstein.
