Abstract

Pabian Village is one of the villages in Sumenep which is famous as the tolerance village. The village is called tolerance because in the village there are different religious communities living in harmony and full of tolerance. This study aims to find out how and what forms of life of religious tolerance exist in this Pabian village. In this study, the type of research used is qualitative field research with a phenomenological approach that intends to understand the phenomenon of what is experienced by the subject of research such as behavior, perception, motivation, actions and others, holistically, and in a descriptive way. The results of this study show that the life of tolerance among religious people that occurred in Pabian village not only contained tolerance values, but also contained indicted values which were formed through the following attitudes: a) emphasis on mutual cooperation; b) awards without sacrificing confidence; c) establish friendship and strengthen kinship; and d) awareness of the inevitability of differences.
