To answer these problems, the author of this thesis was prepared using a historical approach with a diachronic perspective and a sociological approach which aims to reveal the history of the development of Islamic boarding schools based on the order of the year. While the sociology approach is useful as a tool to support the social aspects of the events studied, which include developments. While the theory used to analyze is the first theory used in this study is the theory of Continuity and Change. The Continuity and Change theory is a change that is still ongoing. This theory was put forward by Oswald Spangler. The second theory used in this study is social comparison (comparative theory) this theory was formulated by Leon Festinger, according to this theory the process of mutual influence and competing behavior in social interactions is caused by the need to assess themselves. The results of this thesis concluded that 1) an-nur student boarding school was established in 1994 and was inaugurated in 1995 (building I) while it was established in 1999 and was established in 2000 by KH. Imam Ghazali Said, MA (building II) and Islamic boarding school Darussalam was established in 1981 by KH. Noer Ahmad. 2) Islamic boarding schools for students each year experience a very rapid development seen from the number of students who live in Islamic boarding schools, facilities and infrastructure are increasingly increasing, and also education is increasingly being applied in Islamic boarding schools. while in Darussalam Islamic Boarding School the development is also very rapid seen from the number of santri, the construction of facilities and infrastructure, and also an increasingly advanced learning system. 3) The difference in education applied in the two pesantren has a difference, namely, in the Islamic boarding school students of Nur Nur apply learning which is called intensive foreign languages while classical book learning is only a few books. Whereas in Islamic boarding schools Darussalam learning is done in very many classical books besides that santri also get general learning in their respective schools.
