Abstract
Jihād and qitāl are often mentioned in the Qur'ān regarding anfus and fī sabīlillah, so some mufassīr have interpreted that jihad is focused on war with physical contact (qitāl). But on the other hand not a few scholars who argue that jihad can not be interpreted by war (qitāl) only because jihad has a very broad meaning and contains positive values. This paper supports the perfectionist Sayyid Quṭb and M. Quraish Shihab regarding their interpretation of the jihād and qitāl verses. In this paper the researcher hopes to provide an explanation that discusses the opinion of Sayyid Quṭb and M. Quraish Shihab related to jihad and qitāl as well as their relevance to the present. This study uses comparing sociology, using the comparative method (muqarin) to compare the opinions of the two mufassīr which are the object of study in the study after comparing them with the opinion of the ulama associated with jihad and qitāl. The results of the research are aimed at researching the contexts of the jihād verses that descended on Makkah Sayyid Quṭb and M. Quraish Shihab supporting the verses of the future jihād does not mean war using weapons. But in the Medina sermons they disagreed, Sayyid. Consideration of jihad in Islam is very relevant for interpreting the qitāl verses, warfare carried out by Muslims is warfare throughout the time of the Aqeedah and the Islamic state and can be used with deliberation or asking. While M. Quraish Shihab considers that jihadists often engage in physical warfare so jihadists are often misunderstood, while wars are fought by Muslims to defend themselves in order to produce anything related to the enemies of Islam.
