Abstract

This study examines child exploitation that occurred to Amal in the novel Amal Unbound by Aisha Saeed. This novel tells about child exploitation that is experienced by the main character, Amal. This study focuses on exploring Amal's exploitation. Therefore, this study concentrates on two main research questions; (1) How Amal’s characteristic is described in the novel and (2) how child exploitation is described in the story. This study uses a qualitative method. The data are collected by reading and understanding the novel. Then, the data are analyzed by using child exploitation theory to find out how child exploitation is described. The researcher finds the depiction of child exploitation in Amal through the narrative in Amal Unbound. This study concludes that there are three descriptions of child exploitation depicted in the novel Amal Unbound. Three descriptions of the exploitation that are experienced by Amal are; (1) Forced to do housework, (2) Forced to pay off debts, and (3) Deprived of the right to education. Child exploitation in Amal is a type of domestic child labor. Although this type of work is typical, it can affect Amal, such as physically and psychologically tired.
