Abstract

The role of the madrasa head as the leader of an educational institution is the yardstick for improving and developing the performance of teachers in madrasas. The implementation of improving teacher performance can be carried out and achieved if the madrasa head is able to provide motivation to his subordinates. The research focus that the researchers developed is as follows: 1) What is the role of the madrasa head in providing motivation and strengthening teacher performance at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda Leran Gresik? 2) What are the supporting factors and supporting factors for the madrasa head in providing motivation and strengthening teacher performance at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda Leran Gresik? This study aims to describe the role of the madrasah principal in providing motivation and strengthening teacher performance at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda Leran Gresik, analyzing the supporting factors and inhibiting factors for madrasah principals in providing motivation and strengthening teacher performance at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda Leran Gresik. The type of research is aqualitative research with a descriptive approach, the methods used in this research are observation, interviews, and documentation. Analysis of data collection, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusion. he results of this study indicate that the role of the madrasah head in providing motivation and strengthening teacher performance at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Huda Leran Gresik is by implementing several strategies, including: managing the work environment, approaching teachers by inviting them to talk and deliberations, applying a welcome attitude when there is teachers who share activities while in madrasas, make policies that can upgrade teacher abilities such as involving teachers in workshop activities and certification activities which are considered capable of motivating other teachers who have not registered for certification so that they are enthusiastic about improving their performance, carrying out periodic monitoring activities in the form of learning supervision and also monitoring directly to the learning room and conducting monthly performance evaluations, implementing a reward program for teachers who have good performance given rewards during memorization activities, giving punishment in the form of warning letters and reducing times working for teachers who have less good performance, as well as the provision of adequate learning resources.
