Abstract

English is a universal language used to communicate with individuals across countries. English is now introduced at all levels of education. English learning activities are dominated by teachers which causes student learning difficulties so that learning objectives are not achieved optimally. Therefore, researchers developed pocket book media or pocket books assisted by QR Code integrated with Audio. The purpose of this study was to produce a design for developing learning media in improving students' English speaking skills; describes the application of the results of pocket book development assisted by QR Code integrated with Audio; and find out the effectiveness of the QR Code assisted pocket book integrated with Audio. This study uses R&D research with the ADDIE model. The subjects of this study were 24 students of class III MI Bilingual Roudlotul Jannah Prambon Sidoarjo. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires and tests. The data that has been collected will be analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis, validity analysis and effectiveness analysis. The results of this study are 1) The media design is developed based on conditions that occur in schools, namely the need to improve students' English skills. The material is presented by paying attention to five indicators of speaking skills, namely pronunciation, intonation, choice of words, fluency and comprehension. The developed pocket book contains four chapters that contain a QR Code in it. The contents of each chapter are introducing self and other people, greeting, leaving/parting, asking questions; 2) The implementation of the developed media resulted in a very good category of 95.3 for observing teacher activities and 80 for observing student activities and student responses with an average value of answers including the very good category; 3) The developed media is effectively used in improving the English speaking skills of class III students of MI Bilingual Roudlotul Jannah Prambon, Sidoarjo based on the effectiveness test conducted using the paired sample t-test technique with a value of 0.000<0.05 and independent sample t- test with a value of 0.000<0.05.
