Abstract
Along with a wide variety of information technology advances, many social networks such as Facebook, Friendster, MySpace are emerging. Facebook, one of the networks is much in demand by young Indonesian people because it is easier to make friends than other social networks. Besides, it is more informative. People can exchange comments or photos on Facebook wall. By using Facebook people can communi–cate with anyone, anywhere. In addition, being a means of virtual intercommunication, Facebook is also used as a media to widespread information about the various activities and promote products.
Currently, so many students have already been using Facebook that it certainly brings an impact on students. The positive impact of Facebook is to obtain information, make friends, learn to write an article, and as a means of discus–sion. Facebook increasingly perceived negative impact for students; the lack of time to learn, Facebook addiction, redu–ced privacy, etc. Furthernore, as the events that occurred in Indonesia such as in Tanjung Pinang, a student was expelled for insulting teachers through Facebook. In Sidoarjo, it was informed that a student reported losing but meeting a friend whom he/ she knew through Facebook.
The role of the school counsellor is to provide psycholo–gical and humanitarian help scientifically and professionally so that a counsellor teacher should create a better communi–cation with students dealing with problems and challenges of lives.
Based the fact that occur at this time, in general Face–book carry negative impacts to students at school but be–cause of the wide range of the research, researcher conduc–ted a study on a smaller scope that is in SMA Wahid Hasyim 2 Taman Sidoarjo, because in the pre-study the majority of students of SMA Wahid Hasyim already have their own accounts of Facebook
