Abstract

This research focuses on the students’ perception of using Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) for EFL Learning of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, especially in the English Language education department at CALL class. In a CALL class, students should use a computer, instead of their mobile phone to assist languThis research focuses on the students’ perception of using Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) for EFL Learning of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, especially in the English Language education department at CALL class. In a CALL class, students should use a computer, instead of their mobile phone to assist language learning. Mobile phone has many an essential role in the learning process, and the researcher wants to focus on the students’ perception in using mobile phone when the learning process did. This study uses descriptive qualitative design as the method, the researcher wants to get in-depth and detail information about the student perception of using the mobile phone to assist their language learning in CALL class. The data collection technique that the researcher used was an interview. The result of the interview analysis indicated that the students in the CALL class still use both their mobile phone and the computer or their PC. On the other hand, the students also gave their perception about the advantages and disadvantages of a mobile phone as the media in the learning process at CALL class. The finding showed that mobile phones were not suitable as the learning media in the CALL program, because of the limitation of mobile phones and many features or apps cannot be used on the mobile phone. Mobile phones are beneficial and are used as the media aid in the learning process that do not require too sophisticated soft tools.age learning.
