Abstract
This research highlights the discourse of Islamic fundamentalism as a political ideology of Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) and various problems arising concerning with PKS which is frequently seen as a new phenomenon in the political circumstance in Indonesia. The party, which was historically assumed by many people as the continuity of Masyumi and highly influenced by the worldview and ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood’ struggle (Ikhwanul Muslimin), is often considered to be exclusive, intolerant, and extremely eager to enforce the Islamic law. It, therefore, is unsurprisingly if the party is presumably regarded to have a hidden agenda to replace Pancasila ideology and takes Islam as the ideology of nation. The type of the research is a qualitative research which is viewed from the discourse analysis theory and accomplished with four approaches, namely the socio-historical, theological, and political approach. The research is also supported by documentation, interview, and observation. This dissertation will focus on some important points: (1) How is the prominent figures’ viewpoint of Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) to fundamentalism as an ism and movement which is originated from the Western tradition? How is the prominent figures’ understanding of PKS within the spirit of Islamic fundamentalism in the context of political ideology of the party? And (3) How do the prominent figures of PKS view and understand the other parties’ ideology?
