Abstract

Muslim response to democracy in general can be divided into three groups. First, the group that received a total democracy. This group appreciated the discourse of democracy without any criticism. Secondly, the group that received democracy with criticism. This group elaborated on democracy in accordance with the cultural traditions of the country, and would not dictated model of Western democracy. Third, the group that refused to democracy. They considered democracy as the source of evil (the axis of evil). One of this group is Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). According to HTI, democracy is a bad entity and not compatible with Islam. For this reason, the focus of this study first; what facts which motivated HTI to reject democracy? Second, how the Islamic legal reasoning that developed by HTI in rejecting democracy? Research purposes, first; understanding the rejection of democracy by HTI . Second, tracking the Islamic legal reasoning used by HTI for refusal on democracy. This study is a qualitative research that focuses on the study of texts.
