Abstract
Pesantren as one of the institutions of Islamic education in Indonesia has a very significant role in community development in Indonesia. Beside from being a religious institution, Pesantren is also expected to have role in
general education development in order to contribute in the the country development as a whole. Most of the Pesantren in Aceh are still stuck with the basic curriculum which is focused only to study the Islamic religion, it is because the purpose of boarding institutions are focused on creating the Ulama. besides having the maturity and depth of religious knowledge, graduate Pesantren are also required to have the skills to compete in work.
Therefore, Pesantren must follow the progress of the times and have a curriculum to suit the demands of society. Some of Pesantren in Aceh has changed, still at the stage of adjusting its curriculum to school or madrasah curriculum, it does not have an output that is different from other schools or madrasah. Thus, it is necessary to develop a Pesantren based on vocational islamic boarding school. So the Pesantren graduates are able to compete and reliable in the work, both in government and private institutions
