Abstract

There is an interesting study behind someone's handwriting. Study that discusses about this matter is called graphology. Graphology itself is a science to analyze a person’s character and personality through handwriting or scribble on paper or others media. This science has polupar since Abbe Jean Hyppolyte Michon, a French-born scientist in the 19th century, introduced the term of graphology as a study in psychology moden. But the object of graphology is a latin’s handwriting by the alphabet letter. In fact, there are many forms of letter writing as a tool of communication in a tribe, nation or even continent. For example, the people of India and Thailand, form letters and letter writing are almost similar to the Javanese letter (Honocoroko). Society of China, Korea and Japan, also similar letter use the kanji writing. Then the Arabs (Islam) use the hijaiyyah’s letter. In Islam, graphology is not yet a lot of attention and cultivated by the inelektual. It could also be said there is almost no such works were written by early Muslim scholars. Only in the world of popular science writing is Calligraphy. This science was already there since the development of Islamic civilization. It's just an object studies are letters written in beautiful Arabic as a mere form of art. While the elements related with the analysis of Arabic script has not been mentioned at all. The new ideas offered in this paper is Islamic Graphology as a concept of personality development through handwritten Arabic (hijaiyyah’s letters) taken from the verses of the Qur'an and Hadith. This innovation is important, because during this time, study of graphology is stagnant in Latin (alphabet) only. But more importantly, the idea of Islamic graphology will be elaborated with activities at both the Institute of Guidance and Counseling in Schools, Madrasah Islamic boarding school and University. Aside from being a developer personality in students, the concept of graphology Islam also gives truth (belief), because the verses of the Qur'an and Hadith written will have a positive impact.
