Abstract
This study was motivated by the growth of laundry suci services in Bangkalan Regency as a clothing laundering service based on the principles of taharah (ritual purification), which has not yet been supported by adequate operational standardization, certification, and business development systems. At the same time, laundry suci demonstrates potential to be developed as part of the service sector within the halal economy. This study employed a qualitative method with a multiple case study approach. Data were collected through interviews with laundry suci business owners, consumers, non-consumers, Islamic scholars (ulama), and representatives of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI), supported by observations of service practices and relevant documentation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, coding, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that laundry suci practices have implemented halal economic principles through the Halal Value Chain across the stages of input, process, output, and distribution, forming a Purity-Based Halal Value Chain model. These practices also generate Shariah Value Added in the form of ethical integrity, Shariah-oriented values, and social contributions. Public perception and interest in laundry suci tend to be positive because the service provides not only cleanliness but also assurance of the ritual purity of clothing. However, the study also identified the absence of uniform standard operating procedures and certification, limited promotional efforts, uneven public understanding, and the lack of an integrated business network. Based on the analysis of business practices, public perception and interest, as well as the views of ulama and MUI, internal and external strategic factors were identified and analyzed using Fred R. David’s strategic management framework through SWOT analysis and the TOWS Matrix. The results indicate that business opportunities for laundry suci can be enhanced through service standardization and certification, partnerships with Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and santri communities, strengthening public education, and developing laundry suci networks and ecosystems as part of a halal service-based economy
