Abstract

The use of strategies in teaching process is essential to arouse students interest in learning so that the results will also increase. It is also one way to increase students interest in learning English, especially in improving the listening skill. The purpose of this research is to describe the application of learning strategies to increase the students interest in learning listening at MAN Surabaya. This research uses a qualitative design the data collection is done by observation, interviews, and questionnaires. These strategies to increase the students interest in learning listening are received well by students of eleventh grade of IPA 1. Learning outcomes by using of learning strategies to increase students interest in learning listening are improving it can be seen from the values from the students before and after applied in learning process.It can be seen from the observation of the first phase which shows the average value of 70 to 50% of students categorized as complete, and 50% have not reached the standard. The use of strategies to increase students interest in learning listening increase more, the students are more enthusiastic and more interested in learning listening than before. It can be seen from the scores 75-80 with an average of 75% is said to be complete by the same assessment criteria, and 25% are categorized not complete yet, because it has not reached the standard.
