Abstract
The world of Islamic science expresses three big waves in its history, namely: ancient times, mid era, and modern era. In the top boring as users of modern era, it arises an idea of “knowledge Islamization” which is philosophically in problem with norms and global challenge, or between absolute doctrine and historical reality. While in Indonesia it bears the effort to reconstruct Islamic sciences symetrically with the status change of IAIN and STAIN becoming UIN in 2004. Historically, the reality has been based on the reconstructive and integrative idea of scientists in Yogyakarta in 2003. This case indicates some challenging agenda, modification, and the needs of Ijtihad in the setting of historitical dialectics. There are some problem as background, forms of responses, and the raising of Ijtihad. The future ideal hope and the implication for Islamic studies institution are things that come after. This is urgent and interesting to study side by side the need of understanding the skecth of Islamic science development by taking philosophy of modern theory of science into account.
