Abstract

There were four language skills in English, there were reading, 1isteni11g, speaking, and writing. Among the four language skill, writing was one of most important to learn because does not appear automatically but need a lot of practices to measure writing ski11, especia11y in the teaching of descriptive text, the students were usually having a problem in express their idea into a writing form. In recognizing the problems, teacher has to choose the appropriate technique and media that could help the students to express their idea to write text in English especially descriptive text. In this thesis, cooperative-TGT (Team Game Tournament) was offered as a technique which could help the students understand the material easily. Besides, picture of public figure was an interesting media to be combined with TGT in teaching writing. This research was descriptive qualitative design. Observation checklist, field note, student's score, and questionnaire were used to collect the data. From the data the researcher made a description and analysis to answer the research question. This research conducted in three meetings and every meeting had different topic, there were lvfy Hero, lvfy Idol, and lvfy President. The result of this research showed that TGT which combined with picture of public figure can be implemented in improving student's writing ability in senior high school and its can improve the students writing ability especially descriptive text. Finally, it is expected to give useful contribution to the teacher and students in teaching and learning process.
