Abstract

Alay language is a new language variation in Indonesia that is not appropriate with Indonesian grammar. For this case, the Indonesian young people prefer use alay language than official Indonesian language in their daily life, especially on facebook. There are many young people that usually use alay language on their facebook, it happens because they usually watch television program that the artist usually used alay language, such as Cinta Laura on iklan (advertisement) of Extra Joss Blend, she said that “haduch… lama “bingit””etc. Therefore there are many people imitate their favorite artist especially on their speaking.
The aim of this research is to study the phenomenon of using alay language in status on facebook that usually used by students of MA At-Tarbiyah. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze the way how the students of MA At-Tarbiyah used alay language on their facebook. While here the purpose of using alay language is to express their status to the other, and for classified themselves as a modern young people and are not a kampungan (plebeian) young people.
This research used descriptive qualitative method. The collected data is also qualitative data. All of the data analysis is presented in sentence and explanation forms. The researcher is the key instrument in this research, while the data source is taken from facebook. This data is presented to analyze and identify how alay language uses on facebook. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the theory which is appropriate with the data.
The results of this research show that alay language was produced by mixing capital and short letter in a word, combination numbers and letter in a word, adding and removing phoneme in a word, exchange phoneme, combination between symbol and letter in a word, shortness (abbreviation, acronym), and using common words. While the factors found in the data are Association factors, and Prestige Factor.
