Abstract

Thesis entitled History and Development of Pencak Silat Nurul Huda Perkasya in Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang in 1982-2019 focuses its discussion on the following matters: 1. How is the Relationship between Islamic Boarding School and Pencak Silat ?, 2. How is the History of the Establishment and Development of Pencak Silat? Nurul Huda Perkasya at Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School ?, 3. How is the Function of Pencak Silat Nurul Huda Perkasya in the Life of Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School?.This research was compiled using a cultural anthropological approach that aims to see, study and understand Pencak Silat Nurul Huda Perkasya in Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School as a whole from various aspects of its functions and changes. The method used in this research is ethnographic method and history method. Both methods are used by researchers to review past and present events related to Pencak Silat Nurul Huda Perkasya at Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School so that their development history can be known up to now. While the theory used is functional theory according to Radcliffe Brown (1881-1955). According to him culture is shared or collective property, not individual property. So that its function can be felt together.The results of research conducted by researchers there are 3 points as follows: 1. Relationship between Islamic boarding school and pencak silat which is closely related to the process of establishing a pesantren and as a place to galvanize soldiers, citizens and students to fight colonialism, 2. History and Development of Pencak Silat Nurul Huda Perkasya in Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School since 1982-2019 experienced a good development during its 37th year of development not only in Java, but outside of Java as well., 3. The function of Pencak Silat Nurul Huda Perkasya in the life of Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School there are 7 functions include: the function of self defense, function of art, function of entertainment, function of sport, function of religion, function of education and social functions that can be felt by all members and generally the community.
