Abstract

The ability of students to memorize Al-Quran at Griya Al-Quran Surabaya is not in line with the expectation of the institution. Data on the result of examination in the last three years show that the average score is quite stagnant. This study aims to find learning model that can improve the ability of students to memorize Al-Quran. The basic question of this reseach is what kind of model can improve the ability to memorize Al-Quran? Based on the internal potential of the institution, the author develops a friendship based learning model. The reseach problems that will be answered in this study are: (1) how is the design of the friendship based learning model to improve the ability to memorize Al-Quran in Griya Al-Quran Surabaya?; (2) how is the implementation of the friendship based learning model to improve the ability to memorize Al-Quran in Griya Al-Surabaya?; (3) how is the effectiveness of the friendship based learning model to improve the ability to memorize Al-Quran in Griya Al-Quran Surabaya? This research was conducted using the Borg & Gall research and development approach. The subjects of this study were the teachers and students of Griya Al-Quran Surabaya. The research data were collected using interview, documentation, observation, questionnaire and test techniques. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively using data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing, as well as analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The result of this research and development is Friendship Based Learning model consisting of six stages of learning abbreviated as SAHaBAT (Salam, Apersepsi, Hafalkan, Baca simak, Apresiasi, dan Tutup). Memorization techniques consist of five stages abbreviated as AKRAB (Amati, Kaji, Repetisi, Asosiasi, dan Baca). This model is considered more effective to improve the ability to memorize the Koran by 6% than conventional model through quantitative analysis using nonequivalent control group design. This conclusion is supported by the independent sample t-test which produces data that there is a significant difference between the average score of the control group using the conventional model and the experimental group using the Friendship Based Learning model.
