Abstract
Learning through songs has been applied in English Language Teaching. Thereare many genres that has already used to teach vocabulary in ELT. They are pop song, classical music, rap song. however, to know the best result about how is the effectiveness of the song to facilitate the learning process, we should use the appropriate genre of song for teaching vocabulary in ELT. Rap is one of genres that can be used to teach vocabulary for tenth grade students. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of rap songs to facilitate student’s grammatical mastery of irregular verbs on tenth grade students at MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri Sukodono. The researcher used experimental design exactly quasi experimental design which is nonequivalent control group pretest and posttest design. The researcher used observation field note and test as the instruments. The findings of this study showed the students’ score improved when teachers used rap song in teaching irregular verbs. The mean score of the students in experimental class was 40.00 for pretest and 64.83 for posttest. So, it means that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. This indicates that the use of rap songs was effective to facilitate students’ grammatical mastery of irregular verb in MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri Sukodono.
