Abstract
Venn diagrams are diagrams that can show possible logical and hypothetical relationships among a group of objects or objects. By conducting this study, the researcher tried to answer two problem formulations. The first formulation is related to whether Venn diagrams are effective for improving students' reading comprehension of narrative texts. In addition, secondly, the researcher also wants to know the obstacles that teachers might face in using Venn diagrams when teaching. The research was held at MTs YPM 1 Wonoayu, Sidoarjo. The subjects that became the research sample were students in grades 8A and 8B, each of which amounted to 29 students. The treatment and observation were carried out for two weeks in February 2019. This study used a quasi-experimental research design. In other words, the researcher determines two groups of subjects to be treated differently and the final results are compared. The results of this study indicate that the group of students who were taught using the Venn diagram experienced higher learning outcomes than the group of students who were not taught using the Venn diagram. From this, the researcher concludes that Venn diagrams are effective enough to be used as a medium to increase students' understanding of narrative texts. Furthermore, based on the results of the interview, the teacher gave a positive response to the use of Venn diagrams to teach narrative texts.
