Abstract

The development of Rehearsal and Lesson Study microteaching model through web-based Learning Management System is urgent because there are still several problems in implementing Arabic microteaching, such as: students are less proficient in compiling and developing active, innovative, creative, effective and congenial lesson plans; they are less proficient in applying basic teaching skills and using spoken as well as written language in Arabic microteaching practices. The purpose of this study is to produce a design of Rehearsal and Lesson Study microteaching models through web-based Learning Management System and to prove its effectiveness in improving the pedagogical and professional competence of pre-service Arabic teachers at The Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. This research is a research and development. Therefore, the research method is a combination (mixed methods) between qualitative and quantitative. The development design in this study used the ADDIE model with the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. The results showed that the design of Rehearsal and Lesson Study microteaching model, which integrates peer teaching and real teaching through the stages of observation, collective analysis, preparation (plan), guided rehearsal with feedback (implementation, observation, and reflection), and classroom enactment, through web-based Learning Management System is evidently suitable for microteaching learning. The implementation of this model design was effective in improving the pedagogical and professional competence of pre-service Arabic teachers at The Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya which is indicated by the significance of differences in post-test results between the experimental class and the control class with the mean score in the experimental group 92.119 with a standard deviation of 2.119, while in the control group 82.565 with a standard deviation of 2.927. From the results of independent t-test, the t-count value obtained was 13.738, the t-table value was 2.007 and the significance value (p-value) was 0.000. The t-count value is greater than the t-table value and the significance value is smaller than 0.05, which indicates that the learning in experimental class is more effective than the one in the control class.
