Abstract

This minithesis discusses the unification of two Muhammadiyah high schools in Lamongan into a university. The two high schools are the College of Economics (STIE) Muhammadiyah Paciran and the College of Health Sciences (STIKES) Muhammadiyah Lamongan which merged to become the University of Muhammadiyah Lamongan. The focus of the research in this thesis is (1) How is the history and development of Muhammadiyah High School?, (2) How is the process of unification of high school into Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan? and (3) How is the condition of Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan?. To answer this question, the method used is the historical method, with stages ranging from heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography. The approach used is a sociological historical approach. Through a sociological historical approach, it is hoped that it can provide an interpretation of the process of merging two high schools into the University of Muhammadiyah Lamongan. To sharpen the analysis of the discussion, Jhon Obert Voll's theory of continuity and change is use. After conducting various stages of research and analysis, the findings in this study are (1) Paciran Muhammadiyah College of Economics was established in 1996, over time the university continues to experience developments in the field of infrastructure and human resources. Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah College of Health was established in 2006 and continues to develop quite rapidly. (2) The two high schools then committed to unite to form the University of Muhammadiya Lamongan and in 2018 the Decree of the Minister of Research and Higher Education Number 880/KPT/I/2018 regarding unification was submitted by President Joko Widodo. The process of unifying the two high schools did not necessarily run smoothly. There are several obstacles in the unification process as well as differences in the management of each high school. (3) University of Muhammadiyah Lamongan now has two campuses located on Jalan Raya No. 115 Paciran and Jl. Plalangan KM 02 Plosowahyu Lamongan. There are 14 study programs divided into 3 faculties are facultiy of health sciensec, faculty of economics and business, and faculty of science technology and education.
