Abstract
Understanding the context used in literary works such as Novel is not easy. It needs more knowleges to understand. One of the way is having well-known to the deixis. Deixis is an expression of pointing something in the context used of utterances. It means a word or phrase or clause or sentence which has function to indicate and investigate the meaning used in utterances. This study is focused on the types deixis and its interpretation of Dave Pelzer’s A Child Call “IT” Novel”.
This study uses the qualitative descriptive in which the data explained and interpreted clearly based on the context used including a word, phrase, clause and sentence.
The result of this study can be stated that there are five types of deixis applied in Dave Pelzer’s A Child Call “IT” Novel”. The first is person deixis, for example : Someone who sits in front of the house is old. He is my grand father. His name is mohamad. The second is place deixis, for example : Dina lived in jakarta for ten years.She is happy in there. The third istime deixis, for example : Today,I am so shock because my parents and my friends are annoying to me without having the reasons. Fortuanately, I realized that today is 1st January 2016 in which it is my birthday. The fourth is discourse deixis, for example: Please, read this novel one.This is the expensive one. And social deixis, For example : Someone who is delivering in front of the audiences is Mr.Jakowi. He is the President of Indonesia. By having been well-known to this one, having well-understood to the utterances will be reached especially in literary work such as Dave Pelzer’s A Child Call “IT” Novel.
