Abstract

Character formation can be carried out in the family, community and through education in schools and other places. This is implemented so that every human being has noble character and morals. As is the case with SMP Plus Al Ishlah which instills religious values through integration with Al Ishlah Islamic boarding schools in shaping the students’ character. This study aims: 1. To know the process of implementing religious culture in Islamic boarding school-based schools at SMP Plus Al Ishlah Tuban, 2. To know character cultivation at SMP Plus Al Ishlah Tuban, 3. To know the characters formed in the implementation of religious culture at SMP Plus Al Ishlah. Tuban. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach by being directly present in the research location. The data obtained in this study is the implementation of religious culture in Islamic boarding schools and at SMP Plus Al Ishlah in shaping the the students’ character. Sources of data were obtained from the leadership of the Al Ishlah Islamic Boarding School, Al Ishlah Plus Junior High School teachers, students, and boarding school administrators. Data collection techniques by means of interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis technique uses persistence, triangulation, and member check. Based on the problem formulation or research focus, it was found that the implementation of religious culture was carried out by students through classroom learning, habituation, and other worship activities. Then the character cultivation was done in several ways, they are; Kyai as role model, teacher/ustadz, daily routine activities, dormitory, and Educational Activities. Then with these religious activities, students' characters are formed, namely religious characters, patient characters, sincere characters, and disciplined characters. These characters are formed from refraction in the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) and the activities carried out by the students for 24 hours, the students also get supervision from the caretakers and administrators of the pesantren.
