Abstract
Academic adjustment is the ability of an individual to adjust to lectures and achieve a level of satisfaction in their academics. Self-concept is a person's self-perception of their ability and intelligence to make friends that will generally predict their academic adjustment. Having a strong and positive self-concept allows a person to assess the strengths, weaknesses, and potentials possessed so that he can estimate which parts of his life need to be improved in order to adapt them to the environment. The purpose of this study was to see the relationship between self-concept and academic adjustment in first-year students. The subjects of this study were 400 people who had the criteria of new students from both public and private universities. The sampling method of this research uses purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis in this study used Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between self-concept and academic adjustment in first-year students.
