Abstract

Academic dishonesty is a common problem in higher education and has emerged as one of the most researched aspects of education for decades. Not only low achieving students but the smartest students also do it, this phenomenon is also found in Muslim students. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the relationship between moral reasoning and religiosity with academic dishonesty among Muslim students in the city of Surabaya. The subject consists of 210 Muslim students. The method used is correlational quantitative method. Data collection used a scale in the form of a questionnaire via Google Forms and then the data was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS. The results showed that two of the three hypotheses proposed in this study were accepted. Partially, there is a negative and significant correlation between moral reasoning and academic dishonesty, namely the Sig. 0.000 ≤ 0.05 and t count -3.959 ≥ t table 1.971 which means the higher the moral reasoning, the lower the academic dishonesty and vice versa. However, there is no negative correlation between religiosity and academic dishonesty, namely 0.221 ≥ 0.05 and t count -1.229 ≤ t table 1.971. Simultaneously moral reasoning and religiosity with academic dishonesty show a significant relationship with the F count 16.465 ≥ F table 3.04 and the Sig. 0.000 ≤ 0.05.
