Abstract
The interpretation of the Al Quran verses never stagnate since the revelation period until now. Therefore, a critical study of the interpretation and its methodology has always been progressing along with the development of cultural and social conditions of human civilization. A variety of style of interpretation has been offered by both the classical and modern commentators an each of them has a characteristic and different tendency. The emergence of the development and of the differences in interpretation suggests that the theory of interpretation will not stop, as long as the idea still exists in man. This study will explore the views and the criticisms of Hasan Hanafi on the classical interpretation and his new models and concept afforded so that the Quran really shalihun li kulli zaman wa makan (credible along the space and time) and hudan li al-Nas (instructions for humans). The method of analysis used in expressing the Hassan Hanafi’s concept of interpretation is the technique of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), descriptive discourse analysis does not analyze the aspects of language alone, but also connect to the context based on a reason that the language is used for a particular purpose and practice. It also use both deductive and inductive approach. This study concluded that according to Hasan Hanafi the interpretation of Quran must be taken to reflect the essence of the text (revelation) and interpretation, examines the classic interpretations and formulate a contemporary methodological framework for understanding the Qur'an in accordance with the needs of People. The Principles of interpretation than should pay attention to three things, namely: (1) The relationship between text (revelation) and reality. (2) No need to question the authenticity of the text of the Qur'an (3) No normative assessment (right or wrong) in interpretation. The characteristics of the interpretation due to Hassan Hanafi’s are: (1). The Revelation must be placed in "brackets" (epoche), not to be affirmed nor denied. (2) No justification for one interpretation as the only truth but it is plural due to the differences caused by interpreter difference understanding. (3). The conflicts of interpretation reflect the socio-political conflict and not a merely theoretical conflict.
