Abstract

This article presents a comparison on pedagogy learning approach that today is known in college with the term service-learning. An integrated approach between the service and learning was adopted and developed by universities in the Americas and Europe. In fact, the principle of this approach is actually known and developed by Pesantren that was stamped as traditional institutions in Indonesia. Although not published formally and systematically. Based on understanding to the simple theological principle from credo that “khair al-nas anfa'uhum li al-nas (individuals who had good views of the level of usefulness to other people)”. Pesantren Mambaus Sholihin present to spread the expediency of the students to the local community trough imtihan 'amali program. This program have the same frame with a service-learning, which is integrated action to serve and learn, in one side the students are required to be the subject of the useful and the other side also take benefit from the community. Not only in the form of dissemination of science and religion have been studied at the seminary. But also, the learners involved in many community activities in which there are transfering of soft skills and hard skills among students and the community. Explanatory selected by author to give a detail description of this theme.
