Abstract

The study was conducted to explore the existence of a tradition in the district haroa Buton, Southeast Sulawesi. Haroa tradition is passed down from generation to generation and has been going on since long. Haroa tradition allegedly can build and maintain relationship within and between people. Haroa tradition into the event / celebration together can be a means of conflict resolution as well as integration of the several tribes in the island of Buton and its surroundings. Haroa is a ritual celebration of the tradition of welcoming the holy days of Islam. This study used qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach. The results showed that: the implementation of haroa tradition held in the homes of people who followed all the family members and neighbors were invited. They sat gathered in one room, and in the middle there is a tray that contains the cookies such as onde-onde, bowsprit (cucuru), muffins, baruasa (rice cakes), ngkaowi-OWI (fried potatoes), and sanggara (fried banana). All around the cake plate containing rice and topped with a fried egg. Events like this could actually increase the intimacy between fellow citizens so they can connect the broken relationship conflict. Haroa tradition that begins with praying together, shake hands and greet followed by a meal together is also commonly attended by invitation toulan not just a companion, but also attended by the nearest neighbors and distant neighbors from different ethnic groups. Furthest neighbors are present not only the Muslim community alone, but attended a non-Muslim societies such as China ethnic Chinese, ethnic Balinese Hindus, Christians, and others whose existence is quite diverse in Buton Islamic society.
