Abstract

Technology-based media in education is essential because it can help teachers in teaching and learning activities. However, the wide variety of media available makes selecting the right one a challenge for teachers. This study aims to explore what technology-based media are selected by teachers when teaching as well as the challenges they encounter in selecting the media. The urgency of this study lies in the importance of understanding the challenges experienced by teachers to optimize the use of technology-based media in English language teaching. This study uses a qualitative research method by interviewing four English teachers and also conducting observations to support data from the interview results. The findings of the study show that teachers select four types of technology media, namely, media for organizing classes, creating digital content, making assessments, and improving students' receptive skills. Meanwhile, the challenges experienced by teachers are challenges when training students' receptive abilities and internal and external challenges when using technology-based media. The implication of this study is that by understanding the challenges in selecting technology-based media, teachers can avoid the same mistakes in the future. In addition, the findings of this study are expected to help both teachers and other researchers develop more effective solutions to overcome these challenges and create better ways to maximize the use of technology in English language teaching.
