Abstract

This study employs a descriptive qualitative method to compare two Arabic language textbooks used at the university level. The researcher conducts an analysis by categorizing the content based on the criteria for cultural content developed by Abdul Rahman bin Ibrahim Al-Fawzan. This method not only involves collecting and classifying data but also includes interpreting the data, resulting in descriptions accompanied by comparisons using measurement, classification, and interpretation techniques. The findings of this research indicate the following: The ALBI textbook contains a variety of cultural content, including Islamic culture, Arab culture, Indonesian local culture, and modern culture, with a conformity level of 73% to the criteria of Abdul Rahman bin Ibrahim Al-Fawzan. The ALH textbook also includes diverse cultural content, such as Islamic culture, Arab culture, Indonesian local culture, and modern culture, with a conformity level of 80% to the same criteria. Both textbooks incorporate various cultural elements, ranging from Islamic and Arab cultures to local and modern cultures. Both are suitable for learners in terms of cultural content. However, the ALH textbook is considered superior as it was published earlier than the ALBI textbook and has undergone multiple trials and revisions. Moreover, it features an appealing design as a series consisting of four volumes and includes global cultural topics such as environmental protection, energy, and other contemporary issues. On the other hand, the ALBI textbook excels in balancing cultural content, particularly by emphasizing the local culture of Indonesian society. This textbook highlights unique elements rarely found in other textbooks, such as traditional Indonesian foods, native Indonesian animals, and the customs and traditions of Indonesian communities. Nevertheless, the ALBI textbook still has some shortcomings in the presentation of its learning materials.
