Abstract
The study took place in English Education Department of Tarbiyah Faculty in State Institute for Islamic Studies Sunan Ampel. It is because in this department there are many teachers have used authentic materials for their
teaching. This study is important for the teachers who never use the authentic materials and want to use authentic materials in their teaching to know the problems that they will find when using the authentic materials and the strategies used by the teachers to solve the difficulties. It is also important for the next researchers who want to use authentic materials in their research to know the problems that they will find when using the authentic materials and the strategies used by the teachers to solve the difficulties. The result of the studies stated that there are many problems faced by the teachers when they used authentic materials for their teaching English. The
problems are dealing with the kind of authentic materials and the students ability. For those problems, the teachers also have some strategies to solve the difficulties.
They are choosing the appropriate authentic materials by looking up the age of the students, the level ability of the students, and the environments of the students. They also do some strategies to solve the students ability like making small group with the variety of students level understanding, giving more description to the students if there are unknown words, and discussing in the class to check the understanding of the whole students.
