Abstract

This study aims to find the similarities and the differences of two vampires in the novel Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Both of the novels are analyzed by the aspects of character, characterization, characteristics, in relation to human life and human opinion toward vampire. This study uses descriptive qualitative method to more details about analysis. This study uses new criticism theory about character and characterization to describe vampire’s character in both novels, and applies comparative approach to find the similarities and the dissimilarities of these both vampires. The result of the study shows that there are similarities between Count Dracula and Eli characters as vampire who live in different period of time. Both vampires have similarities in the aspect of uncommon strength. However from the aspects of physic and character traits are different. Eli character has physical appearance and character traits who more human than Count Dracula as well as human opinion toward both vampires. Eli is depicted as unlucky vampire who becomes the victim of a pedophile man. Thus it makes people sympathetic to her.
