Abstract

Language as a vital ability that one person should has in order to get a better life through communication. Building a good relation with other by our way of speech cannot be separated from our capability in using language. Unfortunately, not all the people have such a great ability on managing their speech. Psycholinguists call its problem as speech disorder. This phenomenon was captured in a true story movie entitled ‘The King’s Speech’. The main character, King George VI has some difficulties to produce language especially in public. The movie based on a true story. The characteristic of the movie is drama-history.
The writer applied descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the data. The writers attempted to see what are the problem of language productivity of the main character, what are therapy given and how the process during the therapy. The writer used the theory of speech disorder by Ellen Koslo to analyze the data. The result shows that King George VI has several speech disorder such as disfluency, articulation disorder and muteness. But, with some treatments given by his therapist, he can reduce and overcome his speech disorder so much better.
