Abstract

Literacy is a skill that students must develop from an early age. However, a lack of enthusiasm for literacy skills among students is one of the national issues in recent years. KEMENAG has just made an assessment, namely AKMI, which focuses on increasing reading, numeracy, science, and socio-cultural literacy. This study aimed to develop English teaching instruments based on the AKMI framework. The research questions in this study are: (1) What is the process of developing English teaching instruments based on the AKMI framework? (2) What is the feasibility of the developed English teaching instruments based on the AKMI framework? This study is research and development using the Plomp model that uses field notes, validation sheets, and questionnaires as an instrument to collect the data. National AKMI Instructor Expert, English Teacher (practitioner), and 29 students from class V B MI Nurul Huda Leran participated in this study. The findings of this study are: (1) This study conducts three phases: preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase to develop English teaching instruments. (2) Quantitative analysis on validation and student responses also shows that developed English teaching instruments are feasible for learning by considering validity and practicality. This research provides recommendations for teachers related to learning using teaching instruments based on the AKMI framework to improve literacy in students.
