Abstract

In the 21st century, one of the problems experienced by education in Indonesia is the lack of scientific literacy skills of students, especially in the IPAS (science and social) subject, students lack interest in reading textbooks, and the teachers lack innovation in developing the media so that it is necessary to develop Big Book media to improve scientific literacy. This research aims to: (1) Describe the development design of the Big Book media to increase scientific literacy, and (2) Show the effectiveness of Big Book media to increase scientific literacy in IPAS subject grade IV students at MINU KH. Mukmin Sidoarjo.The type of this research is Research and Development with the ADDIE model that comprises 5 steps including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of this research is 30 students of grade IV MINU KH. Mukmin Sidoarjo. Data collection was conducted using observation, questionnaires, interviews, documentation, and tests. Data analysis using a qualitative descriptive analysis technique, validity, and search for the N-gain value. The results of this study are: (1) The product design was developed based on students scientific literacy with material and validity value 93% and 76% (2) The effectiveness conducted by looking for the N-gain shows 6 students who have a N-gain score of ≥ 0,7. N-gain shows 21 students who have a score of 0,3 ≤ (g) ≤ 0,7 . And Students who get a score of (g) < 0,3 are 2 students. Value showed the effectiveness of the Big Book media in increasing scientific literacy on IPAS subject.
