Abstract

This research aims to analyze deixis, especially the types of deixis found in the conversation between the main character and her interlocutors in the Frozen 2 movie. This movie tells about the search for mysterious voices that can only be heard by the main character as well as the mystery about the powers that the character has and the past of the Kingdom of Arendelle. Together with her interlocutors, they begin their adventure. The researcher is interested in analyzing the types of deixis that use conversations between the main character and her interlocutor. In this research, the researcher will answer the problem formulation, namely (1) What are the types of deixis found by Elsa as the main character in her conversation with Anna (female) and Kristoff (male) in Frozen 2 (2) What are the functions contained in the use of deixis used by Elsa as the main character in her dialogues and actions in Frozen 2. This research uses a qualitative approach to obtain a clear and systematic description of the phenomenon being studied. Descriptive studies in textual analysis are applied in this research to analyze the conversation between the main character and her interlocutors in the movie script. Data was collected by transcribing conversations in the film. The transcripts were then analyzed by identifying types of deixis by applying tabular data. The analysis continues by identifying the types of deixis applied by the main character and her interlocutors in the movie. Finally, the reason why types of deixis are used in this film is to find out how types of deixis are applied to the conversation between the main character and her interlocutors. This study reveals that the researcher found five kinds of deixis: person, place, time, discourse, and social deixis which are contained in Elsa’s, Anna’s, and Kristoff’s utterances. However, the types of deictic words for each deixis are not contained at all in the Frozen 2 movie script. The use of deictic words for each deixis depends on the purpose of each word in the utterances. In this research, characters Elsa and Anna used all kinds of deixis.
