Abstract

The research aims to explore how the main character in the film Zombieland uses illocutionary act to interact with each other in extreme situations, namely the zombie pandemic. This film offers interesting observations about human communication during extraordinary emergency conditions, where the main characters must utilize illocutionary act wisely to survive and achieve their goals. This research uses a qualitative approach to obtain a clear and systematic description of the phenomenon being studied. Descriptive studies in textual analysis are applied in this research to analyze the conversations of the main characters in film scripts. Data was collected by transcribing conversations in films. The transcription was then analyzed by presenting an in-depth analysis of key dialogues in the film Zombieland and trying to identify the types of illocutionary act used by the main characters, such as commands, statements, and requests. This research also examines linguistic concepts such as pragmatics and speech act theory which underlie the analysis. The research results reveal that the main characters in this film creatively use various types of illocutionary act to survive and achieve their goals in emergency conditions. The results of the analysis show that commands and statements are often used to coordinate group actions and maintain security, while requests are used to build cooperation and express emotional needs. This study also identified the use of humor as an effective communication tool to reduce tension in stressful situations. The results of this research not only provide deep insight into speech act in the context of action films like Zombieland but also illustrate how humans can adapt language and communication in extreme situations.
