Abstract

Perception is a process that is preceded by sensing, the receipt of a stimulus by an individual through a sensory device. Reading is a skill that does not need difficult requirements like what to do in speaking which need intense interaction with others or even writing skill that needs to pay attention to grammar. So, the researcher focused in reading activity because reading is considered as a basic skill before mastering another skill. The research questions in this research about the students’ perception toward online reading activities of English Discovery in Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The aim of this research id to investigate the students’ perception towards online reading activities of English Discovery in Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. This study used qualitative method which the instruments are interview and survey which is conducted in form of questionnaire. The finding showed that there are positive and negative perception about online activities in English Discovery. For the positive perception, The reference materials (articles, papers) and assignment helped the students to improved their learning and understand the contents or the materials of the lesson better, English Discovery platform is convenient to used especially in reading task. It is effective and efficient, especially for interactive reading. Online reading activities in English Discovery platform can motivated the students to love reading more and acquired new vocabularies. Online reading activities in English Discovery make students’ reading experience more interested and challenging. Whereas, for the negative perception are the students prefer to do reading tasks in paper instead of reading than through English Discovery and The students think that it is difficult to joined for online reading activities in English Discovery because the slow-speed internet in mobile phone.
