Abstract
Beauty remains an inherent aspiration for many women across the world. In the pursuit of enhancing physical appearance, cosmetic procedures such as Botox and filler injections have gained significant popularity. However, the general public often lacks sufficient understanding regarding the potential benefits and risks associated with these treatments. Many individuals undergo such procedures primarily due to social trends, without fully comprehending their health implications or their legal and ethical standing in Islamic law. This study aims to analyze the benefits and side effects of both therapies on health, as well as their legal status in Islamic jurisprudence, using the perspective of maqasid al-shari’ah. The research employs a qualitative phenomenological method, conducted at four beauty clinics in the city of Ponorogo. Primary data were collected from aesthetic doctors, clinic owners, dermatologists, and Islamic scholars, secondary data were gathered from various literature sources relevant to the research problem. These data were subsequently analyzed through a data triangulation method. The findings indicate that both therapies offer benefits in addressing medical issues, in addition to their aesthetic purposes, particularly for skin rejuvenation. However, their potential side effects must be carefully considered, especially in relation to drug safety and the professional competence of practitioners, to ensure they do not endanger life or health. From the maqasid al-shari’ah perspective, the legal status of these therapies is categorized under tahsiniyyat (complementary needs), primarily aimed at enhancing beauty, reducing wrinkles, and improving appearance. Due to their high cost, they are not considered urgent necessities. As long as these procedures do not cause harm, their use may be permitted, provided that medical considerations are appropriately taken into account.
