Abstract

Speaking abilities are crucial for language learners to communicate effectively, articulate ideas, and develop self-confidence. Teachers play a crucial role in helping students develop these abilities by using effective teaching strategies. The application of the Audio-Lingual Method (ALM) to enhance students' speaking abilities and the difficulties encountered in its implementation are examined in this study using a systematic literature review (SLR) approach of papers published between 2020 and 2025. The findings demonstrate that ALM is used to apply systematic techniques, such as drills, memorizing language structures, question-and-answer sessions, roleplaying, substitution drill, chain drill, and games and songs. These techniques successfully assist pupils in internalizing sentence structures and enhancing their speaking fluency. ALM adoption is hampered by many issues, including poor student confidence, a lack of learning resources, time constraints, and a decline in motivation due to repetitive practice. According to the study, ALM can imaginatively enhance students' speaking abilities, accompanied by a supportive learning environment.
