Abstract

Domestic violence happens in all community, including Moslem community. It can be found in mass media that much domestic violence co1nes down on many families. The victim of the violence can be wife, husband, children, or servant. Based on some research, the most victims are women as wife. The most cases are done by men. Some Moslem with superficial ties to Islam does not know that abuse is unacceptable due to their weak faith, poor Islamic knowledge and lack of interaction with the Moslem community. Tragically some Moslem man actually uses Islam to justify their abusive behavior. The most abusive verse is surah an Nisa': 34. There is word 01\ 1.., in this verse means hit or beat them. Some •abusive men us this verse to justify their abusive behavior. In this thesis surah an Nisa': 34 explain deeper. Four exegesis books use to support the idea. Their exegetical hopes can give the explanation on term of UA I.J, is there the concept of domestic violence in the Quran an what is the meaning of that term. As has been known, there was not Quranic terminology of the term nor in the Sunnah and also in the classical works. But it did mean Muslim or non-Muslim scholar did not keep their attention to discoursing this phenomenon.
