Abstract

The Novel, The Castle of The Carpathians, tells a Baron named Rodolphe de Gortz as a fan obsessed with La Stilla as an idol. He did anything to fulfill his desire. This study aims to analyze the reasons, causes, and impacts of obsessive love by paying attention to Rodolphe de Gortz's behavior as a fan in The Castle of The Carpathians. This research focuses on three problem formulations; How is Rodolphe's obsessive love described in this novel? What causes Rodolphe to suffer from this disorder? What is the impact on the victim?. This study uses a qualitative method to explain the detail. The researcher also uses new criticism as the theory. The researcher collets the data through quotations related to Rodolphe de Gortz. Not only that, but the researcher also analyzes anything related to the La Stilla as the idola who becomes the source of Rodolphe's obsession. In the end, the researcher found that the behavior of obsessive love by his deviant behavior carried out by Rodolphe de Gortz is stalking, extreme jealousy, and resentment. All of Rodolphe's behavior occurs because of the feeling of being neglected by those around him, and the Ego wants to have something meaningful in his life. So, he grows into a person who is thirsty for love. Because of this behavior, Stilla, as the victim, experienced an emotional and physical impact until she died.
